Tanium Achieves CMMC Level 2 Certification, Powering Cyber Readiness and Compliance Across U.S. Defense Industrial Base

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tanium, a leader in Autonomous IT, announced that it has achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2. This milestone assures the Department of War (DoW), defense contractors, subcontractors and research institutions that the Tanium Autonomous IT Platform can protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and operate confidently within DoW compliance frameworks.

Recognized as a trusted cybersecurity partner, Tanium’s CMMC Level 2 certification confirms that the company has successfully completed a rigorous third-party assessment, validating its implementation of required security controls. As CMMC becomes a mandatory prerequisite for DoW contract eligibility, Tanium’s achievement provides customers with a compliant, reliable and secure platform for managing sensitive workloads and maintaining audit ready cybersecurity programs.

“Achieving CMMC Level 2 demonstrates Tanium’s deep commitment to securing the confidentiality of government data used by organizations that support the nation’s defense mission,” said Chris Hallenbeck, chief information security officer at Tanium. “Defense contractors need technology partners that meet the same high standards they themselves are required to maintain. This certification further gives our customers confidence that Tanium supports their most sensitive environments while helping them accelerate their compliance efforts.”

Beyond validating Tanium’s own security posture, this achievement delivers immediate value to customers across the U.S. Defense Industrial Base. Under CMMC flow down requirements, defense contractors must ensure their partners and tools also meet CMMC standards. Tanium’s certification removes barriers for organizations seeking a compliant endpoint management and security platform, helping contractors, subcontractors, and educational and research institutions accelerate readiness and maintain contract eligibility.

Tanium’s Autonomous IT Platform unifies endpoint management and security with AI and real-time intelligence. Platform capabilities span discovery, asset management, reporting, patching, third party application management, provisioning, configuration, policy enforcement, change tracking, and performance analysis. These capabilities support contractors as they work to meet CMMC’s security and documentation requirements. Customers operating in Tanium Cloud for U.S. Government, authorized at the FedRAMP Moderate Impact Level since 2023, can further benefit from an accelerated path to compliance based on the DoW CIO’s recognition of equivalency for CMMC Level 2 cloud workloads.

Tanium’s CMMC Level 2 certification adds to the company’s growing portfolio of government and international security accreditations and reinforces Tanium’s longstanding commitment to security excellence.

The Tanium Autonomous IT Platform complies with stringent U.S. federal security requirements, with Tanium Cloud for U.S. Government authorized at the FedRAMP moderate impact level.

In Canada, Tanium has successfully completed the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security Protected B assessment, enabling the Tanium platform to process sensitive federal information securely, and the Tanium platform has also achieved the Authority to Operate under the Government of Canada’s Endpoint Visibility, Awareness and Security program.

In Europe, Tanium’s platform is certified under ANSSI’s CSPN, a designation mutually recognized by Germany’s BSI through the CSPN‑BSZ agreement. Tanium has also been authorized by the CVE Program as a CVE Numbering Authority (CNA), underscoring its commitment to transparency and responsible disclosure.

In addition to FedRAMP, Tanium is aligned with GovRAMP (formerly StateRAMP) practices that standardize security verification for U.S. state and local governments and educational institutions.

Together, these credentials strengthen Tanium’s position as a trusted and validated cybersecurity partner for defense organizations, research institutions, and government agencies worldwide.
