Open Letter to the Premier of Saskatchewan and Canadian Potash and Energy Producers

From Dr. Krishnan Suthanthiran, Founder and President of Kitsault Energy

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a 2013 press release, Dr. Suthanthiran announced the creation of Kitsault Energy (KE) in Kitsault, his privately owned town northwest of Prince Rupert, British Columbia. That vision remains unchanged in 2026.

The Kitsault Energy development would provide a strategic West Coast export hub for Saskatchewan potash and Canadian producers of propane and butane exporters, while also offering a dedicated West Coast training port for the Royal Canadian Navy.

KE proposes a dual-energy pipeline corridor from Dawson Creek to Observatory Inlet, with a dedicated private deep-water port and terminal 25-30 kilometers south of Kitsault. The inlet—owned by the BC government—in Alice Arm offers deep, wide, ice-free waters for tanker and large-ship navigation, and is only 50 kilometers from international waters, providing direct access to the Pacific.

Previously, Spectra Energy secured Canada Energy Regulator approval for a dual pipeline from Dawson Creek to Ridley Island through Kitsault/Observatory Inlet. Though expired, these permits can be renewed. KE proposes redirecting the approved corridor to Observatory Inlet, building two pipelines—one for natural gas and one for crude oil—saving billions in costs and months of construction time.

KE also calls on the federal government and Transport Canada to pave the road from Nass Camp to Kitsault and build a new road to Observatory Inlet.

KE plans to raise funds to build the dual pipelines to Observatory Inlet and the KE port and terminal, as well as a floating butanol manufacturing plant at the inlet.

The KE development would provide a strategic West Coast export hub for Saskatchewan potash and Canadian producers of propane and butane exporters, while also offering a dedicated West Coast training port for the Royal Canadian Navy.

Combined with road, rail (Terrace–Nass Camp–Kitsault–Observatory Inlet), and Nass Camp airport upgrades, the KE project represents a transformative infrastructure opportunity for Canada, benefiting British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and First Nations communities.
