Del Webb Breaks Ground on Two New Resort-Style Communities in the Columbus Area

Nation’s Leading 55+ Builder Launches Model Construction at Del Webb Maygrass and Del Webb Explore at Northstar, Ushering in a New Era of Active-Adult Living in Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Del Webb, the nation’s leading builder of active-adult communities, has officially broken ground on the Welcome Centers and model parks in two resort-style communities in the Columbus market. The ceremonial events at Del Webb Maygrass in Plain City and Del Webb Explore at Northstar in Sunbury mark a major milestone in the brand’s Midwest expansion, bringing world-class amenities, once associated primarily with Sunbelt locations, to Central Ohio homebuyers.

“The introduction of Del Webb to Columbus represents an exciting new chapter for active-adult living in Central Ohio,” said Jim Marcero, Division President of PulteGroup’s Columbus Division. “For too long, Midwest homebuyers had to relocate to warmer climates to experience true resort-style living. These communities will deliver the same world-class amenities and vibrant lifestyle Del Webb homeowners enjoy nationwide, right here in the heart of the Midwest, where buyers can stay close to family, friends, and the communities they love.”

Both communities will offer single-story floorplans ranging from 1500-3500 sf., with the signature Del Webb resort-style experience, but with distinct approaches:

  • Del Webb Maygrass: Traditional active-adult living exclusively for those 55 and above. Maygrass will feature 711 homes on 353+ acres in Plain City, anchored by a spectacular 16,000+ square-foot clubhouse and extensive amenities.
  • Del Webb Explore at Northstar: An innovative concept designed for homebuyers seeking an active lifestyle community without age restriction. Northstar will offer 570 homes on 256 acres in Sunbury, with stunning views of the private NorthStar Golf Club. Its 14,500-square-foot clubhouse will showcase world-class amenities.

Both communities will offer modern clubhouses, resort-style pools, state-of-the-art fitness centers, movement studios, golf simulation rooms, pickleball and bocce courts, community gardens, miles of walking trails, scenic outdoor spaces surrounded by preserved natural areas, and more. Complementing these amenities, each community will feature a dedicated Lifestyle Coordinator who curates events, clubs and activities that inspire engagement and bring residents together. Designed for adults seeking an active, connected lifestyle, these coordinators help cultivate meaningful experiences and a vibrant sense of community.

The groundbreaking ceremonies, held in late 2025, brought together local officials, business leaders, and community partners to celebrate these developments, both of which are scheduled to open in Spring 2026.

Photos of the groundbreaking ceremonies and renderings of the site plans and amenity centers are available upon request.
