Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Kicks off Annual Valentine’s Day Card Drive on CHLA.org

For each card sent by Feb. 13, Porto’s Bakery & Cafe will give $1 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, up to $50,000

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The sky is the limit for the annual Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Valentine’s Day card drive, which kicks off today on CHLA.org. Hospital supporters and friends are invited to join the fun by sending space-themed Valentine’s Day cards to CHLA patients.

“Exchanging valentines gives kids an opportunity to extend kindness toward others,” says Carol Hamamoto, Director of Child Life, Expressive Arts & Therapies, and Volunteer Resources at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “We realize the importance of this tradition for our hospitalized patients who miss out on the parties and card exchanges with their friends and family members. Because of that, our team creates a celebration that includes heart-shaped balloons, goodie bags, and Valentine’s Day cards with special messages from our community supporters.”

Sending a valentine is an easy, two-step process that only takes a couple of minutes but will make a patient’s day. First, go to CHLA.org/Valentine and choose a card bearing one of three space-themed images—a unicorn jumping over the moon, a rocket-riding koala bear, or a cheerful one-eyed alien in a spaceship. Second, write a personal Valentine’s Day message to a patient. For each card with a message sent, longtime CHLA supporter Porto’s Bakery & Cafe will give $1 to the hospital, up to $50,000.

Printed cards and messages received through Feb. 13 will be hand delivered by CHLA’s Child Life team to patients in celebration of the special day. In past years, patients have received Valentine’s Day cards and good wishes from the Los Angeles community and international supporters from Canada, South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
