Seasoned industry veteran will drive operational excellence and introduce clients to Suffolk’s data-driven, innovation-led building model amid growing opportunities in Central Florida
TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Suffolk, one of the most innovative and successful builders in the country, announced it has hired Trey Black as Chief Operating Officer of its Central Florida operations. In this role, Mr. Black will oversee day-to-day operations across the region and report to Sean DeMartino, General Manager of Suffolk Central Florida.
Mr. Black is known for fostering trust, transparency and long-term collaboration, an approach that aligns closely with Suffolk’s commitment to partnership-driven project delivery and consistent execution in high-growth markets.

Mr. Black brings more than 26 years of industry experience and deep expertise in managing complex, sophisticated projects across a wide range of sectors. His leadership will be instrumental in expanding Suffolk’s presence into high-growth sectors such as healthcare, high-tech manufacturing and higher education, strengthening long-standing client partnerships, and introducing Suffolk’s distinctive, data- and innovation-led approach to new clients throughout the region.
A core focus of Mr. Black’s leadership approach is cultivating deep, mutually beneficial relationships with trade partners. He is known for fostering trust, transparency and long-term collaboration, an approach that aligns closely with Suffolk’s commitment to partnership-driven project delivery and consistent execution in high-growth markets.

Mr. Black will work closely with project teams and regional leadership to ensure alignment across preconstruction, operations and field execution, while reinforcing Suffolk’s culture of accountability, teamwork and innovation.

In addition to his civilian leadership experience, Mr. Black is an Army veteran, having served five years on active duty. During his military tenure, he achieved the rank of Army Staff Sergeant and completed three combat deployments, experiences that helped shape his disciplined leadership style, commitment to teamwork, and ability to perform under pressure.
Mr. Black joins Suffolk from Coastal Construction in Tampa, where he most recently served as Vice President of Field Operations. Prior to that, he was a general superintendent Balfour Beatty and spent more than 20 years with Lendlease in a variety of leadership roles around the world, gaining global experience overseeing large-scale projects in multiple markets and across delivery models.
A longtime resident of Citrus County, Mr. Black’s appointment underscores Suffolk’s continued investment in experienced, locally focused leadership to support its long-term growth strategy in Florida and the Southeast.
