Olson Grimsley Lands on TopVerdict.com’s 2024 List of Top 50 Wrongful Death and Top 100 Verdicts in US

Denver firm secures No. 21 spot nationally for pivotal jury award

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Olson Grimsley’s work has been recognized by TopVerdict.com, earning spots among the prestigious Top 50 Wrongful Death Verdicts and Top 100 Plaintiff’s Jury Verdicts in the United States for 2024.

The firm secured the No. 21 position for wrongful deaths verdicts and also a spot on a list of plaintiff’s jury verdicts nationwide for its landmark $60 million trial victory against Mead Johnson Nutrition, the manufacturer of Enfamil Premature Formula.

The case is the first of thousands of cases pending nationwide to reach a verdict regarding whether makers of cow-milk based preterm infant formula are responsible for causing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in premature infants. Olson Grimsley was brought in to try the case less than one month before trial, and the Illinois jury returned the verdict following a four-week trial after less than two hours of deliberation, awarding the firm’s client $60 million in compensatory damages. Under Illinois law at the time of filing, Ms. Watson could not request punitive damages.

“This recognition is not about us," said firm partner Sean Grimsley. “The jury’s verdict is a powerful statement that manufacturers must be held accountable for harms they cause, especially when our most fragile children’s safety is at stake. We are honored to represent these families and determined to continue fighting for justice in the ongoing litigation."

This monumental win earlier this year also earned a place on Law.com’s Top 100 Verdicts of 2024.

TopVerdict.com annually compiles and publishes its lists of the largest financial case results, including those tried to a verdict before a state or federal jury, obtained by U.S.-based attorneys and law firms.

The case was Watson, et al. v. Mead Johnson & Co. LLC, Case No. 2021L001032 in the Circuit Court of the 20th Judicial District in St. Clair County, Ill.
