Balfour Beatty Communities Partners with U.S. Army to Deliver New Military Homes at Fort Leonard Wood

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Military families, U.S. Army leadership, and representatives from elected officials’ offices joined Balfour Beatty Communities to celebrate the groundbreaking of 69 new homes in the Woodlands neighborhood at Fort Leonard Wood. This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting initiative to modernize housing and enhance quality of life for service members and their families.

The new construction is supported by a $50 million investment dedicated to replacing outdated housing and upgrading neighborhood infrastructure. Phase 1 will deliver 56 new homes designed to meet the needs of today’s military families, the new homes will feature modern layouts, durable materials, energy-efficient systems, and three ADA-compliant units to ensure accessibility for residents with disabilities.

Located near schools, playgrounds, and community amenities, the new homes will help foster a vibrant, family-friendly environment.

“Fort Leonard Wood is built on the foundation of readiness and readiness begins at home,” Col. Alexander Lovasz, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood deputy commanding officer said. “This new family housing development is a direct investment in the people who make this installation mission-ready every day.”

“This groundbreaking celebrates our ongoing dedication to delivering quality, future-ready housing for our service members and their families,” said Shawna Swanson, Vice President of Army Community Management at Balfour Beatty Communities. “We are proud to partner with the U.S. Army to ensure military families have access to modern homes that reflect their service and sacrifice.”

Since acquiring interests in the Fort Leonard Wood project in 2008, Balfour Beatty Communities has partnered with the Army to develop 632 new homes and renovate 1,150 homes across seven neighborhoods—demonstrating the strength of this partnership and shared commitment to continuous improvement.

The Woodland construction initiative is part of a broader, long-term strategy to renew and rebuild aging housing across Balfour Beatty Communities’ Army housing portfolio, ensuring installations like Fort Leonard Wood remain premier destinations for military families.
