Operation HOPE Announces Relief Services for Individuals Affected by the Federal Government Shutdown

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Operation HOPE, a national nonprofit dedicated to helping low- and moderate-income Americans thrive in an ever-changing economy, announced today that it is making extra resources available to individuals and families financially impacted by the ongoing federal government shutdown.

In collaboration with local and national partners, Operation HOPE’s “Hope Is On The Way” government shutdown relief services are provided at no cost and include:

  • Financial counseling
  • Credit and money management counseling
  • Emergency budget preparation
  • Assistance negotiating and working with creditors
  • Foreclosure prevention
  • Financial management workshops

The shutdown has placed severe stress on the country’s most vulnerable populations. With critical programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) facing disruption and many employee paychecks on hold, the impact of the shutdown is felt especially by households already living paycheck-to-paycheck, families with children, seniors, people with disabilities and low-income communities. Recognizing that the financial fallout from the shutdown will ripple far beyond the immediate effects felt today by so many, Operation HOPE is stepping in to provide stabilization and planning support for those most in need.

For more information and assistance, affected individuals are encouraged to contact Operation HOPE at HERE or by calling 1-888-388-HOPE.

About Operation HOPE, Inc.

Since 1992, Operation HOPE has been moving America from civil rights to "silver rights" with the mission of making free enterprise and capitalism work for the underserved—disrupting poverty for millions of low and moderate-income youth and adults across the nation. Through its community uplift model, HOPE Inside, which received the 2016 Innovator of the Year recognition by American Banker magazine, Operation HOPE has served more than 4 million individuals and directed more than $3.2 billion in economic activity into disenfranchised communities—turning check-cashing customers into banking customers, renters into homeowners, small business dreamers into small business owners, minimum wage workers into living wage consumers, and uncertain disaster victims into financially empowered disaster survivors.
