Firm's breakthrough jury wins hold corporations accountable for asbestos-related deaths

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--National plaintiffs firm Dean Omar Branham Shirley has earned gratifying, albeit sobering, national recognition for its work in 2025, including jury verdicts totaling more than $1 billion for clients devastated by mesothelioma, a terminal cancer that is only caused by exposure to asbestos.

“Being selected by Best Law Firms reflects the commitment that drives us each day to right the wrongs committed by those who have preyed upon the innocent.”

In the 2026 edition of the Best Law Firms legal guide, DOBS is listed among the nation’s top firms for its work in personal injury litigation, marking its first appearance in the prestigious publication.

“We represent clients in the worst days of life, or those who have passed on, so we daily seek justice and accountability in the presence of loss and grief,” said partner Trey Branham. “Being selected by Best Law Firms reflects the commitment that drives us each day to right the wrongs committed by those who have preyed upon the innocent.”

The firm’s work this year on behalf of mesothelioma victims and their families included a $966 million verdict against Johnson & Johnson stemming from its iconic Johnson’s Baby Powder. In that case, a Los Angeles County jury awarded $950 million in punitive damages to the family of Mae Moore, who died of mesothelioma in 2021.

It is believed to be the largest verdict against Johnson & Johnson in a mesothelioma case linked to its talc products.

This year, the firm also secured jury verdicts of $3 million in New Orleans, a record-setting $42.6 million in Boston, $16 million in Washington state and $34.2 million in Oregon. A Connecticut judge also awarded $10 million in punitive damages in addition to a $15 million jury verdict.

Best Law Firms is presented by the publishers of The Best Lawyers in America. Only firms with at least one Best Lawyers honoree are eligible for Best Law Firms.

The firm also was a finalist in this year’s Law.com Elite Trial Lawyers Awards in the product liability category, singled out for its outstanding trial results in high-stakes cases involving asbestos exposure.
