LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) today announced the first-ever recipient of the PCF Women in Science Lifetime Achievement Award, Maha Hussain, MD, FACP, FASCO, the Genevieve Teuton Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Deputy Director of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University (Lurie Cancer Center). Dr. Hussain will receive the award and give an honorary lecture on Friday, October 24, during the 32nd Annual Prostate Cancer Foundation Scientific Retreat, held October 23-25, 2025, in Carlsbad, California.

"For decades, Dr. Hussain's scientific brilliance, inspired leadership, and extraordinary mentorship have transformed the treatment and care of men facing the most devastating forms of prostate cancer,” said Gina Carithers, PCF’s president and CEO. “Dr. Hussain's unwavering dedication to her patients has driven breakthroughs that are extending and improving lives. We at PCF applaud and are inspired by her passion and commitment and are honored to award her the first ever PCF Women in Science Lifetime Achievement Award."

Dr. Hussain is a world-renowned genitourinary oncologist who has spent her career fighting for men with lethal forms of prostate cancer—men who need hope and help the most. Her groundbreaking research, supported by several PCF awards and grants, has greatly improved the treatment and management of patients with both metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer and castration-resistant prostate cancer. A dedicated educator and mentor, she leads the Genitourinary Cancer Program at Lurie Cancer Center, where she ensures the next generation of prostate cancer researchers drive innovation with the same fierce dedication to patients and families.

Dr. Hussain has received many other honors and awards and has held impactful scientific leadership roles with professional and government organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). An author or co-author of 325 scholarly articles and book chapters, she received her medical degree from the Baghdad University College of Medicine and completed her residency and hematology-oncology fellowship at Wayne State University in Michigan.

“I am inspired and honored to receive this award,” said Dr. Hussain. “It has been a great privilege to work alongside extraordinary colleagues, patients, families, and partners like PCF, whose vision and investment in discovery and therapeutic innovation mirror my own. Together, our work is paying off—prostate cancer diagnostics and treatments are evolving at a tremendous pace, and I am excited about current advances and what the next generation of discoveries will bring.”

PCF’s annual Scientific Retreat is the foremost scientific conference in the world on the biology and treatment of prostate cancer. This year’s conference will feature extensive updates on advancements in prostate cancer research and treatment, the 10th annual Women in Science and Gender Equity Networking Initiative (GENI) Forum, special guest lectures, awards, and more, with approximately 600 researchers and industry experts attending. The variety, novelty, and high impact of the topics presented, as well as the diversity and excellence of the invited attendees, make this a unique meeting that reflects PCF’s unyielding commitment to extending and improving patients’ lives and ending death and suffering from prostate cancer.

“Dr. Hussain’s work has transformed outcomes for innumerable patients and inspires all of us who are committed to accelerating innovation in this field,” said Howard R. Soule, PhD, PCF’s executive vice president and chief science officer. “This award is a testament to Dr. Hussain’s tireless work to improve patient outcomes for a disease too often overlooked and underfunded. We thank her for her continued support of PCF, its mission, and the patients we serve.”
