Publix Recognized as One of 2025’S Best Workplaces in Retail by Fortune

LAKELAND, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--For the 12th consecutive year, Publix was named on the Best Workplaces in Retail list by Fortune, ranking third of the 20 best large retail workplaces for 2025. Associates reported that the company’s welcoming and promote-from-within culture, premier customer service and dedication to community outreach are some of the reasons they enjoy working at Publix.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as one of the best workplaces in the retail industry for the 12th consecutive year,” said Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous. “We’re especially proud of this designation because it’s from our associates who shared their experiences as part of the award process.”

Caring for associates

According to the Great Place To Work survey, associates responded that they are made to feel welcome when joining the company.

As the largest employee-owned company in the country, Publix offers eligible associates the opportunity to become company owners through its employee stock ownership and employee stock purchase plans. Publix also helps eligible associates further their education with tuition reimbursement benefits and offers a variety of career paths and opportunities for advancement.

Care for communities

Publix is devoted to being a responsible citizen in its communities and a good steward of the environment. The company encourages its associates to serve their local communities by volunteering during its two Publix Serves Weeks each year — one focused on hunger and the other on sustainability. The company’s Good Together hunger campaign also takes place twice a year, when Publix comes together with its associates and customers to donate fresh produce and nonperishable food items to Feeding America® partner food banks and other organizations. In addition, Publix donates food from its stores that is no longer salable but still safe for consumption through the Good Together food donation program.

Methodology

Fortune partnered with Great Place To Work to analyze survey feedback representing more than 1 million employees working in the retail industry in the United States. Questions focused on their experiences with their companies, including innovation, company values and the effectiveness of leaders.
