athenahealth Expands Capabilities to Help Independent Practices Succeed in Value-Based Care with New Marketplace Partners, Seamless Data Exchange within athenaOne

Deeper Integration with Risk-Bearing Organizations Enables Practices to More Easily Succeed in Programs That Support Healthier Communities

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--athenahealth, a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for healthcare practices nationwide, today announced new and enhanced capabilities that further its ability to help practices succeed in value-based care (VBC). Practices across athenahealth’s network can now use the athenahealth Marketplace to easily find, choose, and integrate with risk-bearing organizations, including Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), that align with their goals.

Joining an athenahealth Marketplace-affiliated partner gives practices seamless data exchange, access to real-time analytics on VBC performance, and the ability to integrate insights directly into the clinical workflow to drive high-value, data-driven decisions.

"As practices consider VBC contracts, they are often faced with the challenge of managing new workflows and systems, adding more administrative burden. athenahealth is removing barriers by seamlessly connecting practices with the risk-bearing organization, sharing the needed data, and ensuring that providers have the necessary information for them to succeed in the program at the point of care, in the athenahealth workflow they already use,” said Paul Brient, chief product officer at athenahealth. “By providing the right data, integrations, and technological capabilities, we make it easy for practices to transition to and succeed in these arrangements.”

In addition to helping practices connect with vetted ACOs, athenahealth solves key pain points that keep practices from succeeding in value-based care, leveraging its robust infrastructure to eliminate tedious, manual reporting and connect disparate workflows. Integrations already embedded into the athenaOne experience enable automatic, streamlined information exchange to facilitate the flow of data across systems and surface insights at the point of care for providers in the network. The result is an intuitive user experience that helps providers identify and document risks, manage referrals, close care gaps, and more while minimizing administrative burden.

These new capabilities are possible through athenahealth’s expanding ecosystem of partners looking to engage with the company’s network of more than 160,000 providers. These partners include risk-bearing organizations, who can now join athenahealth’s Marketplace to reach the company’s provider base. Member organizations can then leverage athenahealth’s open, connected system of APIs and athenaOne’s AI-driven workflow to extract member data across their network at scale, share care gaps and other key patient insights, and drive relevant quality care campaigns. All of this ensures organizations and providers have what they need to drive high-quality care at the lowest possible cost.

These capabilities and partnerships build off and enhance athenahealth’s already robust support for VBC, helping practices and payers succeed in quality incentive programs. Providers on the athenahealth network continue to achieve industry-leading results in government-run quality programs including the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), and athenahealth continues to expand its expertise beyond government programs to support quality incentive programs administered by private payers across sectors including Medicare Advantage, Managed Medicaid, and Commercial populations.

athenahealth will soon be announcing initial ACOs in the Marketplace, with additional partners joining in the coming months, including Clinically Integrated Networks (CINs), Independent Practice Associations (IPAs), and Management Services Organizations (MSOs).
