Flashfood Releases 2024 Impact Report: "The Future of Waste is Health"

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Flashfood released its third annual Impact Report: The Future of Waste is Health at the 2025 ReFED Food Waste Solutions Summit. The report digs into the growing connection between food waste and the health and nutrition crisis, presenting the case that wasting less fresh food is one of the simplest and most scalable tools to address a pressing nutrition crisis.

Included alongside Flashfood’s company milestones and achievements in 2024, Flashfood releases the results of its first-ever GHG assessment and original shopper insights on the health outcomes of Flashfood.

“Flashfood is the health, nutrition and food access multiplier the world needs today,” said Flashfood CEO Jordan Schenck. “There are powerful tailwinds behind our business driven by today’s economic, social and political environment. In the year ahead, we’re leveraging AI to scale our technology platform to deliver even greater value to the consumers and retailers on our marketplace, in more communities across North America.”

The Health Crisis

Because of rising food costs, Americans are turning to more ultra-processed foods that are often linked to larger health issues. Today, over 50% of daily calories consumed are sourced from ultra-processed foods (Ballard Brief). The modern diet is missing key nutrients – all of which can be found in nutritious whole foods. But unfortunately, whole foods consumption has actually decreased from 32.7% to 27.4% (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition).

In May of 2025 Flashfood surveyed shoppers1 to understand the impact of Flashfood on the healthiness of their diet. The results demonstrate that Flashfood has the potential to be a powerful platform for people seeking healthier, more nutritious options in their diets.

  • More than 70% of shoppers say Flashfood has increased the healthiness of their diet
  • More than 65% of shoppers consume more fruits and vegetables since using Flashfood
  • Nearly 60% of shoppers consume more protein since using Flashfood

As in previous years, the annual report also aims to feature the work and insights of other organizations working on the same fundamental challenge – to build a more equitable, just and abundant food system.
