Maxar Intelligence Appoints Todd Surdey to Lead Its Commercial Business

Surdey will help accelerate adoption of Maxar’s AI-powered products across the consumer mapping, energy, automotive and telecommunications industries

WESTMINSTER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Maxar Intelligence, a provider of secure, precise, geospatial insights, today announced the appointment of Todd Surdey as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the company’s Enterprise business segment, which serves commercial customers across the consumer mapping, energy, automotive and telecommunications industries.

Surdey is a proven technology executive with decades of experience scaling global software sales organizations at some of the world’s most innovative technology companies, including Palo Alto Networks, VMWare, Google, SAP, Salesforce and Zoom. At Maxar, Surdey is responsible for accelerating commercial adoption of Maxar’s AI-powered geospatial products, which are designed to support a wide range of use cases such as intelligent mapping, site monitoring and autonomous navigation.

“Todd brings a decades-long track record of building high-growth sales organizations and introducing innovative software technologies to new markets, and his experience will help us continue to expand our customer base at a critical time in the company’s growth,” said Dan Smoot, Maxar Intelligence CEO. “We’re continuing to build more innovative, AI-powered geospatial software products that help solve our commercial customers’ biggest challenges—from powering high-definition maps for navigation to site monitoring in the energy industry in near real-time. Todd’s leadership will help us expand our presence and partnerships around the world.”

At Palo Alto Networks, Surdey grew the Enterprise business more than 30 percent year-over-year by transforming how sales teams went to market and by launching teams focused on new growth opportunities. Over a five-plus-year career at VMWare, he helped launch several innovative business units, including the Emerging Products organization and a Business Ventures team for the company’s Hybrid Cloud business that introduced VMWare’s hybrid cloud services to new markets across the world. Surdey was also Co-Channel Chief of VMWare’s worldwide partner ecosystem, which drove over 85 percent of the company’s annual revenue. More recently, Surdey held senior sales leadership roles at HireRight, Zoom and Google. He also currently serves as an Operating Advisor to portfolio companies for venture capital firm Bessemer Ventures.

“Maxar Intelligence is on an exciting journey to transform what’s possible in the geospatial industry, particularly when it comes to delivering more innovative software solutions that build on the company’s industry-leading data,” said Surdey. “There’s a lot of opportunity to bring this innovation to more customers around the world, and I look forward to working with our existing and new commercial customers to solve their toughest problems.”
