University of Phoenix Leadership Appointed Vice Chair of Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Task Team on Artificial Intelligence

Senior Director of Accreditation and Online Education Hal Morgan brings expertise in accreditation and academia to the role

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--University of Phoenix is pleased to announce the appointment of Hal D. Morgan, MBA, senior director of Accreditation and Online Education, as Vice Chair for the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Task Team on artificial intelligence (AI). Morgan, who serves on the ACBSP baccalaureate and graduate degree Board of Commissioners, will hold the Vice Chair position on the Task Team for one year. In this role, Morgan will assist the Task Team in its mission to research and examine the emerging technology of AI and (1) Address the impact on higher education and accreditation including its effect on teaching and institutional administration, and related ethical implications; (2) Provide insights of developing and using AI in a trustworthy and responsible manner; and (3) Identify ways to address AI risks.

A survey on artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education and the workplace from University of Phoenix and The Harris Poll found that nearly 3 in 5 U.S. adults believe AI tools should be leveraged in workplace (59%) and classroom settings (57%). A global survey from the Digital Education Council found that 61% of faculty surveyed reported already using AI in the classroom and 86% see themselves using AI in the future.

Morgan’s career spans 30 years of higher education, accreditation, distance education, and business school administration and teaching experience. As senior director of Accreditation and Regulatory Compliance at University of Phoenix, Morgan oversees institutional accreditation, business accreditation, healthcare accreditation and online education quality assurance and continuous improvement. He has more than 15 years of experience in institutional and programmatic accreditation, serving in roles including as an ACBSP Evaluator and Mentor, Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Peer Reviewer, and an Accreditation Arbitrator for the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Morgan is currently serving in his second year on the ACBSP baccalaureate and graduate degree Board of Commissioners.
