OneLegacy Sets National Record for Organ Donors and Lifesaving Transplants in 2024

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OneLegacy, the leading organ, eye, and tissue recovery organization serving the greater Los Angeles area, reports new U.S. and OneLegacy records in organ donation and lives saved for 2024. The organization enabled 740 organ donors and a record 1,941 lifesaving transplants - marking a 5.5% increase in lives saved over the previous year and continuing a trend of significant growth with a 77% increase in organ donors and a 51% increase in transplants by OneLegacy over the past 10 years.

OneLegacy also reported 2,325 tissue donors in 2024, an impressive 10% increase in lifesaving and healing bone, cornea, and tissue donors over 2023. These tissue donors are expected to enable 150,000 healing tissue transplants.

“These lifesaving and healing gifts would not be possible without the decisions of millions of Californians and Americans to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors,” said OneLegacy CEO Prasad Garimella, MD. “Registration on the Donate Life California Donor Registry, at the DMV or online at OneLegacy.org/register is the first step to leaving a lifesaving legacy and is enabled by families, our hospital and physician colleagues across the 225 hospitals throughout our 7-county region and our communities of 19.5 million Southern California neighbors.”

Reporting of these records follows on OneLegacy’s 22nd year of hosting the OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade Float, a remarkable platform that shares the powerful stories of gratitude from transplant recipient riders, living donor walkers, and deceased donors “floragraphs,” floral images of donors who have left a legacy of life. Each year the OneLegacy Donate Life Float generates over 2 billion media impressions, making it the largest donation campaign in the world.

When the float debuted in 2004, there was no donor registry in California. Today, the Donate Life California Registry has become a crucial resource, allowing individuals to express their decision to donate, and ensuring that their wishes are known by family members and healthcare providers. The registry has played an essential role in increasing donation and saving lives throughout the state.
