Dominion Energy Prepared for Potential Winter Weather Impacts, Urges Customers to Be Ready and Stay Safe

CAYCE, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dominion Energy is prepared for the impact of winter weather in South Carolina this weekend, which is expected to bring a wintry mix of precipitation across parts of the company’s service territory on Friday. The company urges customers to stay safe and be prepared for potential power outages.

As winter precipitation can change quickly, crews are ready to respond and will be flexible no matter the weather or its timing. The company is in contact with neighboring utilities and contract companies to secure additional resources if needed.

“We know from lots of experience that this kind of weather can be dangerously tricky because even the smallest change in the forecast can quickly mean the difference between rain, sleet, snow or ice,” said Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “Whatever comes our way, our crews are ready to roll. The most important thing is for everyone to be ready and to stay safe.”

Tips for customers to stay safe and be informed:

  • Create or restock emergency kits. The National Weather Service recommends creating a basic disaster kit before a storm hits, including water, flashlights, batteries, and non-perishable foods. Learn more about what to include in a basic kit.
  • Stay away from downed power lines. Winter weather and the potential for ice accumulation can cause trees and limbs to fall on power lines. Fallen trees, limbs and power lines, as well as icy roads, create dangerous travel conditions. Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. South Carolina customers should call 888-333-4465 right away to report a downed power line.
  • Download the Dominion Energy app. The fastest and most secure way to report or track an outage is using the Dominion Energy app. Customers may also report outages by going to DominionEnergy.com or calling 800-251-7234.
  • Follow Dominion Energy on social media. The company will provide updates and additional tips to help keep customers informed and safe.
