Infleqtion Delivers First Quantum Material Design Application Powered by Logical Qubits and NVIDIA CUDA-Q

Neutral Atom Quantum Computing Breakthrough Opens Door to Development of More Efficient Batteries, High-Temperature Superconductors, and More

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Infleqtion, the world’s leading quantum information company, today announced the world’s first demonstration of a materials science application powered by logical qubits. Leveraging the NVIDIA CUDA-Q platform, the demonstration, conducted in collaboration with the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin, achieved a 6x boost in application-level computational accuracy. This marks a transformative step forward in quantum computing and showcasing the technology’s potential to tackle otherwise intractable computational challenges, such as the design of next-generation materials.

“This milestone underscores the power of combining Infleqtion’s neutral atom-based quantum hardware innovation with state-of-the-art software tools like NVIDIA CUDA-Q,” said Matthew Kinsella, CEO of Infleqtion. “By working with NVIDIA and leveraging logical qubits, we’re advancing quantum computing beyond experimental phases and toward practical applications that can expand human potential.”

Logical qubits are encoded in a collection of physical qubits, carefully orchestrated to mitigate errors. Though challenging to create and maintain, logical qubits are essential for practical quantum computing. By using logical qubits, Infleqtion’s demonstration paves the way for quantum computing solutions to complex problems, such as the development of more efficient batteries and the discovery of high-temperature superconductors. The accomplishment highlights the unique capability of Infleqtion’s neutral atom quantum platform, which supports custom arrangements of qubit connections to optimize algorithm efficiency.

NVIDIA CUDA-Q and its GPU acceleration capabilities played an integral role in this achievement, enabling the simulation and end-to-end execution of logical qubit experiments on Infleqtion’s neutral atom quantum computer named Sqale. The platform’s integration with Infleqtion’s hardware and Superstaq software provides a seamless ecosystem for advancing research and unlocking real-world applications.

“Accelerated computing unlocks error-corrected, logical qubits, and CUDA-Q puts accelerated computing into the hands of quantum industry leaders,” said Tim Costa, Senior Director of Computer-Aided Engineering, Electronic Design Automation and Quantum at NVIDIA. “NVIDIA’s collaborations with industry leaders such as Infleqtion are pushing quantum computing into the era of large-scale error correction, driving the breakthroughs needed for truly transformative applications.”

Neutral Atoms: The Future of Quantum

Neutral atoms, which are individual atoms with no net electric charge, serve as the foundation for Infleqtion’s quantum platform, enabling advanced capabilities in quantum computing. Infleqtion’s platform offers distinct advantages that make it ideal for large-scale quantum computing:

  • Customized qubit control: Enables precise and efficient optimization of quantum programs, reducing overhead and maximizing efficiency.
  • Proven technology: Industry-leading entangling gate fidelities up to 99.73%, critical for useful quantum applications.
  • Highly scalable: Supports large systems with thousands of qubits.

These features place Infleqtion’s neutral atom systems at the forefront of practical, scalable quantum computing solutions.

Starting today, developers and researchers can replicate Infleqtion’s logical qubit experiments via a cloud integration with NVIDIA CUDA-Q. More details are available on the NVIDIA Corporate Blog and Developer Blog. Additionally, pre-registration is now open for access to Infleqtion’s neutral atom quantum computer, Sqale, positioning users to harness quantum’s transformative potential. Infleqtion and NVIDIA will discuss the breakthrough in greater detail at Q2B24 on Dec. 11 in a session titled: Commercializing Quantum – Real World Impact NOW.

Looking ahead, Infleqtion is committed to delivering systems with more than 100 logical qubits by 2028, unlocking unprecedented opportunities in materials science, healthcare, and beyond.
