U-Haul Acquires Former Extra Space Storage Facility in Minneapolis

975-unit property on West River Road becomes the Company’s 39th center operating in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--U-Haul® announced it is serving customers at a fourth retail, moving and storage center in Minneapolis – its 39th Company store in the North Star State.

U-Haul Moving & Storage at West River Road at 1717 W. River Road N. opened under U-Haul management on Nov. 19 after being acquired on Nov. 18.

The two-story building sits on 2.63 acres and was previously an Extra Space Storage® business. It houses a variety of 975 indoor climate-controlled and heated self-storage rooms available for rent at affordable price points. Covered drive-in load/unload areas offer protection from the weather.

Customers will soon have access to U-Haul moving trucks and trailers; boxes and moving supplies from a retail showroom; and sustainability initiatives like the Take A Box, Leave A Box program.

Store hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Reserve storage and moving equipment on the U-Haul app or call our West River Road team at (612) 404-2375.

“We are excited to offer a new U-Haul storage location to the north Minneapolis community,” said Lucy Aveen-West, U-Haul Company of Northern Minnesota president. “Our goal is to consistently meet the needs of so many that turn to U-Haul for residential mobility and trusted storage products. West River Road is a convenient location for our customers who have been traveling farther for our services.”

Aveen-West intends to hire as many as eight Team Members to staff the facility. U-Haul will look to hire locally to promote job growth within the Minneapolis community. U-Haul, founded by a WWII Navy veteran and honored as a Best for Vets employer by The Military Times, actively recruits veterans and gives them hiring preference.
