Skanska USA Building Hosts Inaugural Excellence in Construction Leadership Program Event To Promote Diversity Across the Industry

Executives From 14 Diverse Businesses and Skanska Gathered For Two Days to Bolster Diversity and Inclusion Within The Construction Industry Supply Chain

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following the launch of its Excellence in Construction Leadership Program (ECLP) earlier this year, Skanska USA Building, a leading global construction and development firm, recently held its inaugural ECLP workshop and networking event. ECLP is a nomination-based, executive-level program that brings together Skanska USA Building’s leadership team members with executives from local businesses across regions to promote diversity and inclusion within the construction industry supply chain. ECLP is the first-of-its-kind in the construction industry to focus specifically on nationwide peer-to-peer relationships with trade partners and was built off the firm’s successful Construction Management Building Blocks Program (CMBB).

“The Excellence in Leadership Program at Skanska goes beyond developing individual skills — it’s about fostering leaders who understand the importance of building meaningful relationships with our diverse business partners and strengthening connections across our industry,” said Joycelyn Yue, National Director of Supplier Diversity, Skanska USA Building. “We had a very impactful two days, discussing how we can bolster our partnerships with local suppliers and small businesses, and in turn, strengthen the communities we operate in. By empowering our people to lead with integrity and collaboration, we ensure that every project reflects our commitment to inclusive growth and long-term impact.”

Participants attended the two-day, in-person development program with their peers and Skanska USA Building leadership and enjoyed sessions and workshops around topics including healthy business growth and strategic planning, business plan development, leveraging AI and technology, building high-performance teams, preconstruction strategies, and more. For example, the General Manager’s roundtable promoted team building, as they broke into groups to collaborate on solving real-life construction challenges.

The ECLP program was designed to facilitate ongoing access, knowledge-sharing and mutually beneficial relationships between Skanska and their diverse business partners, which will further develop strategic connections with clients and community stakeholders. Notably, this included engaging the entire Skanska US Building Executive Leadership Team and General Manager’s throughout the course, which has been an integral component to facilitating potential market expansion and knowledge transfer for our ECLP Partners.

ECLP attendees included participants from each region who have been nominated and selected by Skanska’s general managers, account managers, business developers, and local Supplier Diversity team members based on their company values, leadership potential, success in the local market, relationships with clients, and connections with community stakeholders. Since 2007, over 800 companies have engaged in Skanska’s capacity building programs and the participating firms have collectively exceeded $740M in contracts on Skanska projects.
