Juan Alvarez, Deputy Director for Management and Operations at Idaho National Laboratory, Named Executive Vice President of Battelle

Alvarez to Lead Battelle’s National Laboratory Management & Operations Business

COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Juan Alvarez, a respected long-time leader at Idaho National Laboratory, has been named Executive Vice President of Laboratory Operations for Battelle. Alvarez has served as Deputy Director for Management and Operations at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) since the forming of the Battelle Energy Alliance, which has managed INL since 2005.

INL is the nation’s leading center of nuclear energy research and development, focusing on research related to nuclear science and engineering; nuclear reactor design, development, operations and safety; national security research and testing; and the development of sustainable energy and environmental solutions.

Prior to joining INL, Alvarez was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, and later served as director of Internal Audit, Assurance and Quality at the Pantex Plant in Panhandle, Texas and five years as director of Facility Operations at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington. He has been instrumental in growing INL from a $540 million operation with 4,300 staff to a $2 billion-plus enterprise with close to 6,200 staff.

Alvarez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Miami, and a Master’s degree in Industrial Technology from the University of Idaho.

Alvarez will fully transition to his new role by mid-October.
