Veterinary Dentistry Specialists® Opens New Clinic in Madison, NJ

The fourth location in the VDS network provides advanced oral care for pets by board-certified veterinary specialists in dentistry and anesthesia

MADISON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Veterinary Dentistry Specialists® (VDS), a specialty practice for pets in need of advanced oral care, has opened a new location at 240 Main Street, Madison, New Jersey. Board-certified dentist, Ellen Scherer, DVM, DAVDC, is co-owner and medical director of the practice.

VDS is the only dentistry practice in the nation, where board-certified veterinary specialists in dentistry and anesthesiology work together with each patient to ensure optimal care. This unique combination of expertise, along with five-star service, provides the safest, most comfortable, and best possible outcome for each patient.

While oral health diseases are prevalent in most pets, there are only approximately 230 active board-certified veterinary dentists and 220 board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists in the United States.

Dr. Scherer earned her veterinary degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a rotating internship at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists in New York City, and a three-year dentistry residency at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, subsequently earning status as a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. Prior to joining VDS Madison, she practiced for 5 ½ years at a multi-specialty hospital in northern New Jersey.

“One of the best ways to take care of your pet’s oral health is through routine home care, along with regular professional examinations and cleanings by your primary care veterinarian. However, there may come a time when your veterinarian recommends more advanced treatment. That’s where we come in,” said Dr. Scherer. “I am proud to say that together with my talented team, pet owners throughout the region now have direct access to world-class, advanced oral care for their pets.”

Symptoms a pet may exhibit that could indicate treatment by a professional is needed include:

  • Bad breath
  • Buildup of tartar
  • Eating difficulties
  • Excessive salivation
  • Facial swelling
  • Head shyness
  • Loose or broken teeth
  • Lumps or bumps in their mouth
  • Swollen/irritated gums

VDS services include endodontics, extractions, jaw fracture repair, malocclusions, oral cancer surgery, orthodontics, palate surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics and restoratives, salivary gland surgery, and more.

VDS Madison hours are Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 6:00 pm by appointment. Referral from a primary care veterinarian is always appreciated, but not required. For more information, call 973-520-6640 or email madison@vdsvets.com. Visit vdsvets.com to learn more.
