Sibelco Earns 2023 Safety Achievement Award from Essential Minerals Association

Award Recognizes Zero Recordable Incident Rate in Medium Company Category

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sibelco, a global leader in material solutions and a leader in the mining and processing of high purity quartz, has received the Essential Mineral Association’s (EMA’s) annual Safety Achievement Award in the Medium Company category for the second consecutive year. The accolade, presented in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), recognizes Sibelco’s outstanding safety performance in 2023.

In 2023, Sibelco’s employees worked 397,711 hours with zero injuries for an all-injury rate of 0.00 per 200,000 employee work hours.

As part of its global Get to Zero program, Sibelco aims to achieve zero fatalities and a Recordable Incident Rate (RIR) of less than 1.5 by 2030. In 2023, the company’s RIR was 1.73 vs. 2.07 in 2022, placing Sibelco in the top quartile of companies in the mining and metals industry.1

“At Sibelco, safety is integral to our strategy and embedded in every aspect of our business – from operations to sustainability to how we engage with our people and local communities. As leaders, it is our duty to ensure all of our team members return home to their families safe and injury-free at the end of each working day,” said Achille Njike, EVP of Operations – Americas at Sibelco. “Congratulations to the team on earning EMA’s Safety Award for the second year in a row. Their efforts demonstrate our strong commitment to putting safety at the center of our operations, ensuring Sibelco remains the global leader in the mining and processing of high purity quartz.”

Each year, EMA names only one company in each of its Safety Achievement Award categories: large, medium and small. Winners are recognized at EMA’s annual Fall Conference and Fly-in event held in Washington, D.C. each year.
