Groups Recover Together’s First Annual Outcomes Report Demonstrates Industry-Leading Results and Calls for Transparency in Data

BURLINGTON, Mass.--()--Today, Groups Recover Together published their first-ever annual report after one decade of operation. The annual report demonstrates the organization’s success in working toward its mission: saving lives by increasing access to communities of recovery in the places where they’re needed most. The report also invites providers to commit to increasing their own transparency and quality of services.

“Last year’s data prove there is a better way to provide opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment — and that high-quality results are possible at scale. We hope our transparency inspires industry leaders to join us in sharing outcomes,” said Dr. Jacob “Gus” Crothers, the Chief Medical and Outcomes Officer at Groups Recover Together.

Highlights from the report include the following accomplishments in 2023:

  • Expanding membership by 27%, their team by 23%, and their state footprint by 8%.
  • Establishing 43 new contracts with health plans, 38 of which were value-based.
  • Supporting six-month retention rates at 3x the national benchmark, and all-cause mortality rates 2x better than the national benchmark.
  • Assisting 50%+ of Groups Recover Together members with important needs like housing, employment, education, and access to social support.
  • Reducing total cost of care for our health plan partners by 37%, based on case studies of Groups Recover Together members vs. matched controls.

“After a decade of providing industry-leading, evidence-based, and accessible addiction treatment in the communities that have been impacted most by the opioid overdose epidemic, we are excited to share a blueprint for other providers to join us in reshaping how treatment is delivered and reimbursed in the U.S. By harnessing innovation and value-based arrangements, we are confident the industry can do much more for the millions of Americans with OUD,” said CEO Colleen Nicewicz.
