Carlos Merino Appointed CEO of DP World in Peru

Merino's appointment underscores DP World's commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and growth across Latin America.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DP World, a global leader in logistics and trade solutions, announces that it has appointed Carlos Merino as CEO of DP World in Peru. The appointment expands Merino’s current role as CEO of DP World Ecuador, as he will now lead DP World’s operations in both countries.

Merino, who has more than 20 years of experience in global logistics and port management, joined DP World in 2021. As CEO of DP World Ecuador, his tenure was marked by significant enhancements in operational efficiency at the Port of Posorja, establishing it as the country’s premier regional deepwater port. This achievement is underscored by Posorja’s recent addition of three new Maersk service routes and recognition as one of the most efficient ports in South America. As the leader of business development for the port, Merino spearheaded the launch of Ecuador's first operational Special Economic Development Zone, and played a key role in developing the port’s refrigerated cargo capabilities.

Morten Johansen, Chief Operating Officer of DP World Americas, “Carlos Merino's elevation to CEO for DP World in Peru reflects his strong performance as CEO of DP World Ecuador and extensive experience in supply chain solutions throughout his career in Peru and beyond. His exceptional track record, deep understanding of the logistics and port operations, and commitment to innovation and sustainability are exactly what we need to drive our operations forward in this rapidly growing market. We are confident that under Carlos's leadership, DP World will continue to set new benchmarks for excellence in Latin America.”

Merino is a Peruvian national. Prior to joining DP World, he spent more than a decade as CEO with Terminales Portuarios Euroandinos (TPE) in Paita, Peru. During that time, he also served on the board of ZED Paita (Free Trade Zone Paita) and presided over the Asociacion Civil Fondo Social Terminal Portuario de Paita. His earlier career includes positions at Babcock & Brown and Neptunia S.A. Merino holds an industrial engineering degree from Universidad Ricardo Palma, an MBA from Babson College, and completed an executive education program at Harvard Business School.

Carlos Merino, CEO of DP World in Ecuador and Peru, said, “I am deeply honored to take on the role of CEO for DP World in Peru. This opportunity not only marks a significant milestone in my career but emphasizes my commitment to driving sustainable growth and operational excellence across Latin America. I am eager to leverage DP World's global expertise to enhance our supply chain solutions and contribute to the region's economic development.”
