SiebenCarey Pledges Support for Crescent Cove Respite & Hospice Home for Kids

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SiebenCarey today announced the law firm’s commitment to future financial support of Crescent Cove Respite & Hospice Home for Kids, Minnesota’s first and only home designed to provide end-of-life care for children.

SiebenCarey was pleased to serve as a ‘Kin Sponsor’ of the 12th Annual Gala for Crescent Cove in late January,” said Jim Carey, Managing Partner of SiebenCarey. “This organization is only one of three in the U.S. serving parents and children needing respite and hospice care.”

“The need is great,” continued Carey, “and I’m grateful Crescent Cove has created a home-like environment for Minnesota families who need it. I’m excited about furthering our involvement with Crescent Cove, including a pledge to provide financial support in the years ahead.”

Crescent Cove provides support to dozens of families each year. During the Gala, Amy and Andrew Gruber shared the story of their infant son, Theo, and expressed their gratitude to the staff at Crescent Cove for Theo’s end-of-life care. Theo lived for 53 days before passing away in his mother's arms.

Crescent Cove was also near and dear to former Twins slugger Harmon Killebrew, according to former Twins announcer and Gala emcee Dick Bremmer. “This was a cause very near and dear to him and those of us who knew Harmon. All of us are so dedicated to this cause in part because it was so important to Harmon."

“One thing Minnesotans do well is take care of their neighbors who need a little extra help. But there is always room to do more,” said Ian Carey, the SiebenCarey investigator who connected the law firm to Crescent Cove. “Seeing so many people and organizations supporting Crescent Cove at the Gala, knowing that we are helping more families and children, is truly inspiring.”

Each year, more than 700 children die in Minnesota – half of whom could have potentially benefited from a children’s hospice home. Located in Brooklyn Center, the Crescent Cove Respite & Hospice Home for Kids serves as a place for families to care for their children with life-threatening conditions. Crescent Cove’s atmosphere allows for periods of rest and serves as an option beyond the hospital or home environment for compassionate, end-of-life care.

Kids and young adults, 0-21 years old, can stay in one of six bedrooms for overnight respite and, as needed, a sacred place at the end of life. Along with therapy rooms and recreational space, a family suite is available so family members may stay together while enjoying a temporary getaway from the constant demands of caregiving. Nursing professionals trained in pediatric palliative care are on-site to provide daily care, meals, pain, and symptom control. Crescent Cove also offers a network of therapists to engage with kids through music, art, pet therapy, healing touch, spiritual care, and hydrotherapy.
