Lincoln Financial Group Again Named One of America’s Most Responsible Companies

Newsweek Magazine recognizes Lincoln’s leadership in philanthropy, environmental sustainability and overall good corporate citizenship

RADNOR, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lincoln Financial Group (NYSE: LNC) today announced it has been named one of America’s Most Responsible Companies 2024 by Newsweek Magazine. The ranking focuses on a holistic view of corporate responsibility that considers all three pillars of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG).

Newsweek, in partnership with research organization Statista, Inc., selected the honorees based on more than 30 publicly available key performance indicators (KPIs) derived from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability reports. Additionally, an independent survey asked 17,000 U.S. citizens to select companies familiar to them and to evaluate those companies CSR performance in general and in three subdimensions: social, environmental and governance. The final list recognizes the top 600 most responsible companies in the United States, spanning 14 industries.

“At Lincoln, we continuously explore innovative ways of thinking, tapping into diverse backgrounds and new ideas, to help enhance our CSR and ESG efforts to generate a real impact,” said Allison Green Johnson, Chief Diversity Officer and President, Lincoln Financial Foundation. “This award is a testament to the strong strategy we have in place and the impact we are making in our workplace, marketplace and communities.”

Lincoln Financial has continued to enhance its focus on improving peoples’ lives in the communities it serves and protecting the environment through the work of the Lincoln Financial Foundation. In 2023, Lincoln Financial made charitable contributions exceeding $9.5 million, with approximately 300 partners reaching more than 1.5 million people. In addition, Lincoln employees continued to coordinate local giving in the company’s main locations through its Employee Activities Committees.

Lincoln also continues to make progress on reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, achieving the company’s targets on Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and made significant progress on expanding Scope 3 emissions reporting and calculations on categories with readily available emissions data. In 2022, Lincoln helped reduce paper purchase by 21%, adopting a digital-first model by encouraging business lines to use digital versions of new marketing materials and event agendas to limit printing.

“Lincoln’s commitment to making a positive impact for people and the planet is more compelling than ever,” said Amber Williams, Chief Sustainability Officer, Lincoln Financial Group. “Every day, we are moving closer to this commitment by integrating our ESG performance in everything we do and holding ourselves accountable to being more than just a business.”

In addition to America’s Most Responsible Companies, Lincoln has also been named to Newsweek’s list of Most Trustworthy Companies 2024 for the second year in a row. Lincoln has also been included on major sustainability indices, including the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America.
