Indiana Gateway Digital Academy Designated as a Purple Star School by Indiana Department of Education

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Indiana Gateway Digital Academy (INGDA), a leading institution in online education, is proud to announce its designation as a Purple Star school by the Indiana Department of Education (DOE). This prestigious recognition places INGDA among an elite group of schools in the state dedicated to supporting military students and families connected to the nation’s military.

The award is given to school programs statewide that help students of military families who are often moving from place to place, as well as the social-emotional toll that moving takes on them during their developmental years. Being a Purple Star Campus means INGDA is dedicated to providing extra assistance to these students and families that is specifically catered to their needs. In Indiana, only 102 schools have received this honor.

The full-time online public school currently serves nearly 100 active, reserve, and retired military families.

“The Purple Star designation is incredibly important to our school system," said Dwight Ashley, Executive Director at Indiana Gateway Digital Academy. “We hope that this designation helps military families gain confidence knowing that our entire school system is dedicated to helping their child gain the educational skills necessary to be life-, work- and college-ready.”

To achieve Purple Star designation, schools must meet specific DOE criteria. This includes specialized training for faculty to help them best serve military families and students, assigned points of contact within the school for military families, and employment of military service members and their immediate family members, among others.

The Purple Star designation is particularly significant this year with INGDA being part of the largest cohort in the award's history. Of the 102 designated schools in the state, 64 are new additions this year, showcasing the growing commitment of Indiana schools to support military-connected students.
