Anthem President Robert Bunch Recognized as One of the Most Influential Leaders in Georgia

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (Anthem) President Robert Bunch was recently recognized by Georgia Trend magazine as one of Georgia’s 500 Influential Leaders. This prestigious assembly was selected by the media group as a “comprehensive list of local leaders around the state driving Georgia’s economy to newer heights year after year.”

Georgia Trend noted that “the numbers tell the story of the significance of Anthem Blue Cross [and] Blue Shield of Georgia to the state,” emphasizing the 3.5 million Georgians that depend on Anthem for healthcare and the over 7,000 the company employs statewide. “Company mergers and rebranding aside, Bunch has been with the company he now leads for more than 20 years.”

Bunch is listed with 30 other healthcare leaders in Georgia, including heads of hospital systems, non-profits, and medical associations focused on health and wellness for those across the peach state.

“I am honored to be listed with some truly amazing leaders that are making decisions with lasting impressions on Georgians across the state,” said Bunch. “I look forward to collaborating with many of these stakeholders as we think beyond traditional healthcare and redefine healthcare affordability and access to care.”

Bunch currently serves as President for Anthem and is responsible for the strategic direction, performance, and growth of Anthem’s commercial business in the state. He also partners with healthcare providers to fulfill the company’s mission of improving the lives and communities served.

Bunch joined Anthem in 2001 and previously served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) & Chief Client Officer (CCO) for Anthem’s National Accounts. In these roles, he was responsible for developing Anthem’s National Accounts growth strategy in direct and matrix shared service areas and was accountable for the retention and growth of national employer customers. Bunch was focused on leveraging the company’s capabilities to develop leading-edge solutions that provided superior health and financial outcomes for its clients, delivered best-in-class business performance, and, ultimately, differentiated National Accounts from its competitors.

Prior to assuming the COO position, Bunch was Regional VP of Sales and Account Management where he was responsible for the P&L and profitable membership growth for the Individual and Small Group market and the State of Georgia Health Benefit Plan (SHBP). He was responsible for planning and strategy for Anthem to align the work required to deliver the annual plan membership and financials, as well as the future adjacent growth strategies for longer-term success.

Throughout his career at Anthem, Bunch has held various leadership positions including sales, account management, product development; government and regulatory compliance; systems integration; and business migration activity, along with responsibility for various systems and application programming teams.

Before coming to Anthem, Bunch worked as a consultant in the Government and Public Services sector with specific responsibility for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) programs. In this role, he had responsibility for the successful delivery of a multi-state Medicare Part A claims system migration, and business process reengineering tasks for multiple State Medicaid agencies. Bunch had also worked as an application programmer in the banking and credit card industries.
