UNITE HERE Local 11: Ashley Tisdale, Uzo Aduba and Other SAG-AFTRA Members Cancel Attendance of B2B Inspirational Women Forum at Struck Beverly Hilton Hotel

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A day before the L.A. Times B2B Publishing Inspirational Women & Leadership Awards at the Beverly Hilton on November 7th, A-list SAG-AFTRA members like Ashley Tisdale and Uzo Aduba canceled their participation in the “The Art of the Hollywood Side Hustle” to respect the boycott of the Beverly Hilton and stand with its picketing workers.

Housekeepers, cooks, dishwashers, front desk and servers at the ritzy hotel, also home of the Golden Globes, have been fighting for a contract since July that provides wages that keep up with the rising cost of housing. These same workers have picketed and marched in solidarity with members of WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

While most hotels like the Beverly Hilton, operated by large chains, have remained opposed to workers’ demands for living wages, there have been some breakthroughs. Most recently, the Loews Hollywood Hotel and the Laguna Cliffs Marriott reached tentative agreements with their respective workers, making them the third and fourth hotels to do so, following the lead of the Biltmore Los Angeles and Westin Bonaventure.

“We applaud Ashley Tisdale and Uzo Aduba for standing with Beverly Hilton workers in their fight for a living wage,” said Kurt Petersen, Co-President of UNITE HERE Local 11. “No Hollywood professional should cross a picket line to attend award shows, including the Inspirational Women Awards and the upcoming Golden Globes, at the Beverly Hilton. We are appalled by the event organizers who decided to side with the billionaire owners of the hotel rather than the workers.”

UNITE HERE Local 11 is a labor union representing over 32,000 hospitality workers in Southern California and Arizona who work in hotels, restaurants, universities, convention centers, and airports.
