Comporium Invests $3,000,000 and Expands Fiber Network in Northern Lancaster County

More than 850 Rural Addresses Gain Access to Gigabit Broadband Speeds

LANCASTER, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Residents in a large portion of northeastern Lancaster County can now take advantage of Comporium's fiber-based services. In 2022, the company began upgrading its network in a broad swath along the state line. This upgrade gives customers in that area access to internet speeds up to one gigabit per second. During 2023, Comporium continued those upgrades further south.

Comporium combined its own private investment with state grant funds to complete this project. This approach ensured that the maximum the number of addresses were reached. The completed projects required over $3,000,000 of investment and will improve the quality of life at over 850 homes and businesses. Areas benefiting from these improvements include addresses along:

  • Shiloh Unity Rd. - from Unity Church Rd. to Plyler Mill Rd.
  • Camp Creek Rd, - from close to Thompson Rd. to Mockingbird Ln.
  • North Rocky Creek Rd. - from the NC state line to Rowell Rd.
  • Several other nearby roads such as Walnut Rd., Campbell Lake Rd., Cannery Rd., and Helms Rd.

“We continue to deploy fiber optics with the speed and capacity to handle whatever broadband needs our customers have today and in the future,” stated Comporium’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Dosch. “The South Carolina Broadband Office and the South Carolina Department of Commerce have been valuable partners in helping us prepare rural Lancaster County for long-term success in an information-based future.”

Comporium continues to work with state and federal agencies to find ways to upgrade service to rural customers. Recent upgrades were the result of Rural Broadband Grants made possible through funding from the South Carolina Department of Commerce and administered by the South Carolina Broadband Office within the Office of Regulatory Staff.

Comporium participates in the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program. This federal program allows eligible homes to get a $30 discount off regular monthly rates for internet. This participation is a part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the community. At the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Comporium provided service at no charge to hundreds of student households when schools were closed for public health reasons, and continues to offer internet, voice, security, and video services with a variety of subscription options intended to suit every user’s needs.

Residents and businesses in Lancaster County may place an order and schedule installation appointments through Comporium’s website at www.comporium.com.
