Voya Financial names Brannigan Thompson executive vice president and chief human resources officer

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), a leading health, wealth and investment company, announced today that Brannigan Thompson has been named company executive vice president and chief human resources officer (CHRO), reporting to CEO Heather Lavallee effective Aug. 16.

Thompson will be responsible for Human Resources, Corporate Responsibility and Voya Foundation and will direct a strategy aimed at building the organization’s human capital by attracting, retaining and developing world-class employees and incenting them to deliver superior performance. He also will serve on Voya’s Executive Committee.

A 23-year veteran of Voya’s HR team, Thompson joined predecessor company ING during 2000.

“During Brannigan’s two decades at Voya, he has earned the trust and confidence of leaders across our organization, with a remarkable track record of success in key roles across the HR function,” said Lavallee. “Whether as an HR partner to our businesses or as talent development leader, where he has positively influenced the careers of numerous Voya executives, including me, Brannigan has played a key role in defining and advancing the Voya culture. Brannigan’s unique combination of HR expertise and extraordinary character makes him the perfect choice to lead our talented HR team, which plays a valuable role in our ability to deliver the outstanding experiences that our customers and clients deserve.”

Before being named co-lead of Voya’s HR team during May, Thompson was senior vice president, HR — Workplace, Corporate Functions and Talent & Leadership. During his Voya tenure, Thompson has provided HR support for each of the company’s businesses and corporate functions. He has also led work and teams across various Voya HR functions, ranging from talent and leadership development to performance and rewards management.

“I am honored to be named Voya’s CHRO,” said Thompson. “Our people are the key ingredient to Voya’s success, and I am excited to work across our company to further advance our high-performance culture and business strategy — and enable our employees to achieve even more.”

Thompson began his career as an executive compensation consultant for Towers Perrin, which is now Willis Towers Watson and branded as WTW.
