MARLTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Consensus Health, a leading physician-owned and -governed medical group comprised of more than 150 New Jersey-based independent primary care providers and specialty doctors across more than 60 locations, announced today C. Robert (Bob) Damico, D.O., its chief population health officer and co-chief medical officer, was named a 2023 Healthcare Hero by NJBIZ Magazine, a leading business journal covering New Jersey.
The Healthcare Heroes Awards program was created to recognize excellence, promote innovation and honor the efforts of individuals and organizations making a significant impact on the quality of health care throughout New Jersey. Submissions are reviewed and winners chosen by a panel of independent judges. The program recognizes individuals and organizations across 12 categories.
Dr. Damico was recognized by judges for his pioneering role in and ongoing commitment to the delivery of value-based care programs for patients across N.J. For the past three decades, he has dramatically and positively impacted patient health and wellness across N.J. Seventeen years ago, he created and introduced value-based programs throughout the state; today, he is among NJ’s foremost value-based care experts. He’s considered a true trailblazer based on his proven track record in improving patient health while managing escalating healthcare costs through three integral programs he oversaw statewide. These programs reaped $25 million in overall healthcare cost savings statewide between 2015-2022.
“Being named a Healthcare Hero in New Jersey by NJBIZ is a truly a distinct honor. Value-based care is in fact a niche facet of the healthcare system and an expertise which I am proud to have learned and mastered. This has allowed me to directly influence the health and wellbeing of patients throughout the state. Patients in our value-based programs are now considerably healthier, and, as a result, the payors responsible for covering their healthcare costs are extremely satisfied with the savings they realized as well as the improvements in the health of their covered population. It has proven beneficial all around, and I am proud of the teams with whom I work as together, we make patient health our priority. Thank you to the judges for recognizing the value and importance of public health in our great state,” Dr. Damico said.
Michael Lovett, Consensus Health president and chief operating officer, added: “Dr. Damico joined our network of more than 150 physicians near the close of 2021 to focus on further elevating our value-based care initiatives across our practices. In just under two years, he has positively affected all our stakeholders -- physicians, patients and payors -- demonstrating that quality care delivered cost-effectively results in better health across patient populations. It has been very rewarding to see these results firsthand. All our stakeholders join us in congratulating Dr. Damico for earning this prominent and well-deserved honor.”
NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes honorees will be recognized during an in-person awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 27th at 8:00 AM at The Palace at Somerset Park. Accompanying the event will be a publication supplement highlighting their accomplishments. The supplement will be inserted into the July 10th, 2023 issue of NJBIZ.
