Segra Earns 2023 Top Supply Chain Projects Award

Segra’s ‘Silk Road Express’ Supply Chain Transformation Receives Top Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Segra proudly announces it has been named a 2023 Top Supply Chain Projects award winner for the company’s “Silk Road Express” supply chain transformation. The Top Supply Chain Projects Awards program profiles innovative case study-type projects designed to automate, optimize, streamline and improve the supply chain.

“Our supply chain transformation was broader than just a planning, strategic sourcing, warehouse operations, or logistics project. It was a full-scale, end-to-end transformation to help bridge capabilities that didn't previously exist, and we are honored to be recognized for our efforts,” says Cyndi Scallion, Vice President, Supply Chain and Facilities Management at Segra.

Segra’s overall goal was to create an efficient and effective supply chain where they obtained the most competitive pricing, and speed to market was enabled through end-to-end operations across the value chain. In order to pull the value levers and achieve Segra’s strategic goals, they embarked on a ‘Silk Road Express’ initiative to transform the company’s supply chain by enabling new processes, performance, people, and systems.

Some of the top issues Segra faced included minimal planning or strategic sourcing capabilities, data gaps and a lack of systems integration, a sub-optimal warehouse footprint, and a lack of operational platforms or tools. To mitigate those issues, Scallion and her supply chain team created solutions for each problem, updated the supply chain design, streamlined operations, and implemented a number of tools to address data gaps.

Following the transformation journey, which began in July 2022 and continued through the end of the year, Segra developed both aging/obsolete inventory reporting and parts availability/shortages reports to provide needed real-time transparency. This allowed the team to better manage inventory levels, see revenue and expedite parts for revenue at risk, reduce aging inventory, decrease stock outs, and optimize inventory levels.

“With the improved capabilities that we have been building out, Segra is a small lean team that is punching above our weight,” says Scallion. “We have best-in-class capabilities and we’re supplementing with people where we don’t have systems.”

“Our newly implemented systems providing improved capabilities for managing our supply chain is going to enable significant growth,” says Scallion.
