Arbor Day Foundation, Jewish National Fund-USA Partner to Grow Forests in Israel

The project is the Foundation’s inaugural planting effort in the country

LINCOLN, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Arbor Day Foundation has helped plant trees in more than 50 countries globally, but a new partnership with Jewish National Fund-USA will see the Foundation plant trees for the first time in Israel.

Jewish National Fund has planted more than 260 million trees in Israel, sprawling more than 250,000 acres. The Arbor Day Foundation’s partnership will focus on restoring tree cover in forestlands affected by wildfires.

“The Arbor Day Foundation is proud to help build on the meaningful work already being done in Israel by Jewish National Fund. We’ve found proven success in reshaping landscapes around the world for the better, using trees to empower communities and nurture the environment,” said Dan Lambe, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “We’re confident this partnership will lead to a greener and healthier home for people living in Israel.”

Starting April 1, Arbor Day Foundation donors will be able to make on online selection to plant trees in Israel through the Trees in Celebration and Trees in Memory programs. Both give people the opportunity to honor loved ones with a living tribute. Donors are also provided with a personalized card or certificate acknowledging where their trees will be planted.

Today’s announcement comes on the annual observance of Tu BiShvat, an environmental holiday in the Jewish faith sometimes referred to as “the original Earth Day” dedicated to recognizing the importance of caring for the natural world. Jewish National Fund-USA shared online how people in the United States can recognize Tu BiShvat.
