Sama Executive Appointed to Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence Working Group

Alex Shee Among World’s Leading AI Experts

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Sama, the leader in providing high-quality training data for ambitious AI, today announced that Alex Shee, the company’s Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy, has been appointed to the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Working Group on the Future of Work. GPAI brings together leading experts from industry, civil society, governments, and academia from around the world to promote the adoption of trustworthy AI. Alex will bring his experience with Sama’s social impact employment model to serve on the working group.

Launched in 2020, GPAI is the fruition of an idea developed within the G7, with founding members representing Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union. GPAI guides the responsible development and use of AI consistent with human rights, fundamental freedoms, and shared democratic values. The organization bridges the gap between AI theory and practice by supporting cutting-edge research and applied activities while fostering international cooperation. Today, 29 countries are represented within the organization.

GPAI’s experts collaborate across four Working Group themes: Responsible AI; Data Governance; Future of Work; and Innovation & Commercialization. All GPAI activities are intended to foster responsible development of AI grounded in the principles of human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation and economic growth. The mandate and scope of the Future of Work is to:

  • Conduct technical analysis on how AI affects workers and working environments and how workers and employers can better design the future of work
  • Address how AI can empower workers, how employers and workers can prepare for the future of work, and how job quality, inclusiveness, and health & safety can be maintained or improved
  • Identify the education and training needed to prepare the future workforce.

Shee’s background, professional experience, and role at Sama earned his appointment to the GPAI Future of Work Working Group. As Vice President. Corporate Development and Strategy, Shee is building an AI business ecosystem upon Sama’s platform as the company hones its focus on the computer vision market. His role encompasses partnerships, corporate development and go-to-market strategy. Prior to joining Sama, Shee headed Partnerships and Corporate Development at Element AI, where he opened and grew the company’s business in Asia. Also, he was recently selected as one of the top 250 upcoming leaders in Canada by the Governor General of Canada.
