***9:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 1601 South Bridge Avenue, Weslaco, TX 78596***

WESLACO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The site where new affordable apartments will be built in Weslaco, Texas, will get a visit from U.S. Representative Mayra Flores on Wednesday. The apartments are being torn down to make way for the $16.5 million reconstruction of Weslaco Village Apartments. The project was helped by a $750,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) subsidy from Wells Fargo and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas).

The media is encouraged to attend a celebration of the AHP subsidy and join in a tour of the existing property. Congresswoman Flores, R-TX, will be joined by the organization that received the subsidy – Prospera Housing Community Services, representatives from FHLB Dallas and city officials.

AHP funds are intended to assist FHLB Dallas members in financing the purchase, construction and/or rehabilitation of owner-occupied, rental or transitional housing and housing for homeless individuals. In 2021, FHLB Dallas awarded $18.5 million in subsidies to 26 affordable housing projects to help create or rehabilitate 2,113 housing units. A new round of funding will be awarded in the fall.
