Cerebral Expands Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Program to Colorado, Washington

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Cerebral Inc, the leading provider of online mental health services, today announced the expansion of its virtual opioid use disorder treatment program to include patients in Colorado and Washington state.

Cerebral began offering treatment for opioid use disorder -- aimed at increasing access to care and improving the health of people suffering from opioid addiction -- in Florida on March 8. The company plans to continue to expand to additional states.

There is a deep unmet need for treatment. There were more than 100,000 overdose deaths last year, 75 percent of which were opioid-related. However, 82 percent of Americans suffering from opioid use disorder are still not receiving the lifesaving medication they need, according to Pew.

“This expansion shows Cerebral’s commitment to helping patients who are struggling with opioid use, many of whom don’t know where to turn for help,” said Cerebral Chief Executive Officer David Mou. “We are providing high-quality care as part of a program that has shown great success in treating a problem that continues to plague the U.S.”

Cerebral patients who join the program will meet regularly with licensed prescribers to develop a personalized treatment plan, as well as manage or eliminate their opioid use, through medications like Suboxone. One-on-one counseling sessions supplement care. The sessions are virtual, so members can get care in the comfort and privacy of their home. Patients will take regular randomized drug tests during their check-ins with clinicians.

Cerebral treats a range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, insomnia, bipolar disorder, and more. Cerebral recognizes the need for holistic treatment, as 43 percent of those struggling with opioid addiction also have a co-occurring diagnosis or symptoms of mental health disorders. Cerebral is on the path to becoming a comprehensive care provider so that it can pioneer value-based care in behavioral health.
