Vornado Realty Trust is the owner, developer, and operator of PENN 1, and Gensler designed Empire’s new space. Empire BlueCross BlueShield is on a mission to materially and measurably improve the health of all New Yorkers, and the mission starts with the company’s commitment to investing in the future of its communities.

“We are New York's health insurance company – a dedicated team of New Yorkers taking care of New Yorkers for the last 85 years,” said Alan J. Murray, President & CEO, New York Markets, Empire BlueCross BlueShield. “Our new office in the heart of Midtown represents our commitment to serve New Yorkers and to join the City in the important work to revitalize what we can all agree is the greatest city in the world.”

To mark the occasion, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, in partnership with its philanthropic arm, the Empire BlueCross BlueShield Foundation, announced plans to finalize a $300,000 grant to Breaking Ground, New York City's largest provider of street outreach and permanent supportive housing for people experiencing chronic unsheltered homelessness. The grant will fund key enhancements to Breaking Ground’s harm reduction services for people with substance use disorders across the agency's street outreach and transitional housing programs, including Connect to Care, part of an innovative partnership with Vornado Realty Trust that brings Breaking Ground's compassionate approach to outreach to the Penn District.

"We are committed to helping the most vulnerable New Yorkers overcome homelessness and lead lives of dignity and security in housing," said Brenda Rosen, President and CEO of Breaking Ground. Together, we're ensuring that New York City comes back healthier and more vibrant than ever."
