Rasmussen University Central Pasco Surgical Technologist Associate’s Degree Program Earns CAAHEP Accreditation

Accreditation affirms the University meets or exceeds the criteria for educational quality in surgical technology curriculum and prepares graduates exceptionally well for the workforce

ODESSA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rasmussen University, a university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, is pleased to announce its Central Pasco Surgical Technologist Associate’s Degree program has earned programmatic accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). This accreditation affirms the University’s commitment to meeting educational standards, signifying that the Surgical Technologist program in Central Pasco has met or exceeded criteria for educational quality in the surgical technology curriculum.

The Surgical Technologist program at Rasmussen University prepares graduates exceptionally well to work successfully in the profession upon graduation. According to CareerOne Stop, the annual projected growth (2018-2028) in the Surgical Technologist field in Florida is 15 percent.

“We are proud to offer an accredited Surgical Technologist program to prepare more people for careers in this important and growing field,” said Lakeisa Andrews, Surgical Technology program coordinator at Rasmussen University. “Every surgery needs a surgical technologist, and the need is not going away. We are happy to help prepare students to fill this critical role today and into the future.”

The Surgical Technologist program at the newly opened Central Pasco campus is led by leaders in the field with decades of experience both educating in the classroom and practicing in the operating room. Students in this program are trained in hands-on simulated surgical suite classrooms that look similar to an operating room. Students also complete a surgical technologist practicum in real-world healthcare environments. With these brand-new classroom spaces and high-caliber faculty leadership who have decades of real-world experience, students in the Surgical Technologist program at Rasmussen University have access to top-tier education opportunities.

“We’re excited to see how this newly accredited program will benefit the students and the community members in our area,” said Andrews. “By offering this affordable, accessible and accredited Surgical Technologist program, Rasmussen University is committed to producing highly-skilled graduates to fill the shortages in the surgical technologist industry.”

The Surgical Technologist Associate’s degree program is available with Knowledge Credit™, which allows students to transfer in college-level credit or take up to ten self-directed assessments—saving them time and money. Self-directed assessments are a way for students to show that they have already achieved certain skills and knowledge for a particular course and don’t need to take it. If a student chooses to take all ten available assessments, they could save approximately $10,000 on the cost of their degree.
