Community Solidarity Rally and March: CUPE Ontario Sends a Message of Support to Ottawa

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CUPE Ontario is joining a coalition of progressive Toronto organizations for a rally and march this Sunday, February 20, beginning at 1 p.m. at Toronto City Hall. A far-right led group has taken over and manipulated the anxieties and concerns of some to create truly frightening conditions for residents and workers in Ottawa.

“As long as it’s necessary, we’ll keep naming – loudly, clearly, and collectively – what we’re witnessing,” said Fred Hahn, President of CUPE Ontario. “These are white supremacists, plain and simple, who desperately latch onto whatever the issue of the day might be in order to spread their ideology of hate, sow seeds of chaos and dissent, and upend the lives of residents and workers. Enough’s enough. No more hate. No more chaos. No more sleepless nights for, and harassment of, our neighbours. It’s time to forcefully oppose these currents of white supremacy; offer a vision of the solutions we need, like real affordability, permanent paid sick days, and investments into childcare and healthcare; and organize to make this vision a reality.”

Fred Hahn will be available to comment in the lead up to the rally and at the rally itself.

Millions for ads and a private jet as deficit-strapped hospitals slash hundreds of staff, harming patient care

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Ford government must fund hospitals at their real costs to protect patient care from deteriorating, says the Canadian Union of Public Employees. “The government is choking hospitals of funding and forcing deep staff cuts. Its self-aggrandizing advertising campaign would have covered the deficit at the Ottawa Hospital. The private jet for the premier would cover the deficit of the Elizabeth Bruyere,” said Michael Hurley, president of CUPE’s Ontario Council of Hospit...
