OKI Launches Ultrafine Diameter Robot Cable and Ultrafine Diameter Cable

Cable combining outstanding durability with industry-leading fineness to meet the wiring needs of confined spaces

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On September 9, OKI Electric Cable (President: Hideo Yamaguchi, Headquarters: Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture), a subsidiary of the OKI Group, launched sales of the Ultrafine diameter robot cable “ORP-30F Cable” and Ultrafine diameter cable “OFV-30F Cable”. Both offer industry-leading fineness (*1) for wiring in confined spaces inside industrial robots and machine tools.

“In recent year, more and more manufacturing facilities have introduced industrial robots and machine tools in pursuit of labor and power savings, and demand has also grown for downsizing such machinery,” says OKI Electric Cable president Hideo Yamaguchi. “In response, OKI Electric Cable has developed two types of ultrafine diameter cables. These cables offer up to approximately 30 % smaller diameter than existing products (*2) for use with equipment with voltage ratings (*3) up to 30 V.”

The ORP-30F Cable is a robot cable designed for use in the moving parts of industrial robots and machine tools. It incorporates a special elastomer insulation material (*4) developed by OKI Electric Cable to impart both toughness and outstanding sliding characteristics, realizing the high durability required of movable wire to accommodate all machine movements, including bending, sliding, and twisting (*5). Designed for use with fixed machinery components, the OFV-30F Cable incorporates cross-linked PVC (polyvinyl chloride) for outstanding heat resistance. Both cables incorporate newly developed manufacturing technologies to form the thin-walled insulation material and optimize the cable structure, resulting in industry-leading fineness: the ORP-30F Cable is available with a minimum external diameter of 2.1 mm and the OFV-30F Cable is available with a minimum external diameter of 2.7 mm. This allows wiring in confined spaces and contributes to machinery downsizing. Enhanced oil resistance of the PVC sheathing allows deployment in harsh environments—for example, environments in which cables are exposed to cutting fluid (*6), a substance that typically degrades exterior sheathing.
Offering a wide range of product types for applications involving fixed or moving parts, OKI Electric Cable will continue to provide solutions to meet the needs of its customers.
