TuxCare Services Supports Joint NASA/U.S. Geological Survey Mission that Provides a Continuous Global Record of Earth’s Surface

TuxCare provides Linux support services and live patching for the Atlas V rocket infrastructure, which launches the Landsat 9 Mission

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket yesterday launched the Landsat 9 observatory into a near-polar, sun-synchronous orbit for NASA's Launch Services Program. Landsat 9 will extend the legacy of Landsat satellites monitoring the Earth's resources into a fifth decade. The remote-sensing spacecraft's mission is a collaboration between NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and will capture more than 700 scenes of Earth per day.

TuxCare services provide automated security patches and live updates for the systems supporting the Atlas V rocket. Through this work, TuxCare supports NASA’s missions of space exploration and understanding of our own planet.

This will be the 145th mission for United Launch Alliance. It is the 88th Atlas V launch and the 39th in the 401 configuration. ULA Atlas rockets and its heritage Delta vehicles have launched every successful Landsat mission over the past 49 years.
