Cointreau Names Courteney Cox Winner of The Ultimate Margarita Showdown with $100,000 Donation to The Independent Restaurant Coalition

Courteney Cox Mixed Up Her Strawberry Margarita with a Sweet & Spicy Rim for a Cause, Voted Winner by Margarita-Lovers Nationwide

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cointreau, the premium orange liqueur at the heart of over 500 classic cocktails, including The Original Margarita and The Cosmopolitan, named Courteney Cox’s Strawberry Margarita as America’s favorite at the close to The Ultimate Margarita Showdown in partnership with Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, and GQ.

The Ultimate Margarita Showdown debuted at the start of summer where Emmy award-winning host Andy Cohen, actor and producer Courteney Cox and Tony and Grammy award winning actor Daveed Diggs went head-to-head to mix up their own spins on The Original Margarita, and Americans everywhere voted on their favorite.

Judged on both technique and talent, each participant was tasked with incorporating an unexpected mystery ingredient, resulting in innovative and fresh recipes including Andy Cohen’s Passionfruit Basil Margarita, Courteney Cox’s Strawberry Margarita with a Sweet & Spicy Rim and Daveed Diggs’ Smoky Habanero Margarita.

With Courteney Cox’s Strawberry Margarita with a Sweet & Spicy Rim crowned America’s favorite margarita, she joins Cointreau in donating $100,000 to long-time partner, The Independent Restaurant Coalition, a non-profit organization committed to helping the bar & restaurant community impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

”Partners like Cointreau make it possible for us to continue to fight for relief for the hundreds of thousands of independent bars and restaurants still feeling the effects of the COVID crisis,” said Erika Polmar, Executive Director of the Independent Restaurant Coalition. “Our coalition is largely funded by donations, and their support throughout the pandemic has been a crucial part of our ability to effectively advocate on behalf of our beloved industry.”

“Cointreau is so proud of our ongoing commitment to support the Independent Restaurant Coalition, an organization that shares similar values on helping local bars and restaurants navigate the impacts of COVID-19,” said Ian McLernon, President and CEO at Rémy Cointreau Americas. “On behalf of Cointreau, I’d also like to thank Andy Cohen and Daveed Diggs with a special call out to winner Courteney Cox for joining us for The Ultimate Margarita Showdown. We couldn’t have done it without the support of each of them, as well as their dedicated fans.”

The Ultimate Margarita Showdown was part of Cointreau’s Margarita Season in partnership with Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, and GQ, a program offering cocktail enthusiasts everywhere all of the tips, tricks and recipes they need to know as they sip on their favorite margarita all summer.
