UHSM Health Share Reaffirms Commitment to Faith-Based Community Projects
The Christian Health Sharing Ministry sponsors Catholic Charities of Orange County Easter event and donates to help families in need
NORFOLK, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UHSM (Unite Health Share Ministries), a faith-based health care nonprofit founded on Christian beliefs and values, is excited to reaffirm its commitment to charitable efforts through a number of new and diverse initiatives designed to help those most in need navigate the current health and economic crises.
UHSM is participating as a sponsor at several important fundraising events this spring. It has partnered with the Catholic Charities of Orange County, California (CCOC) for an 8-part video series, “Walking with Christ,” which “lets you see Catholic Charities at work through the eyes of those we serve and how this affirms their inherent human dignity,” according to Executive Director Ellen Roy. Proceeds from this series help feed the hungry, counsel those in despair, and assist families in danger of losing their housing in the year-plus since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Donors have the opportunity to sponsor the series, which debuted on March 27 and will run through April 3.
“Identifying key areas where charitable assistance can be most beneficial is a core tenet of UHSM’s mission,” said UHSM President Christopher Jin, who is also overseeing a new program to donate free telehealth to CCOC volunteers in the grip of COVID. “We see many ways in which faith, business and community can interact with one another for society’s benefit,” Jin said.
UHSM is also a partner with the Orange Catholic Foundation’s 18th annual Conference on Business and Ethics, a virtual edition of which is scheduled for April 16. Partnerships and other tiered sponsorship opportunities also are available for that event, which benefits the Orange Catholic Schools Fund – resources that help provide students with tuition assistance, technology and infrastructure improvements and faith-filled programs with an emphasis on Catholic values.
These initiatives come on the heels of others that have already successfully launched. Just before Christmas, UHSM gave Catholic Charities $25,000 in gift cards for Northgate Markets, a grocery chain popular with the Hispanic community in Southern California, to feed local families who might otherwise have gone hungry.
“We pray that this gift will help hundreds of our brothers and sisters in need during this extraordinary time,” said Kimberly Jetton, executive director of the Orange Catholic Foundation, upon UHSM’s presentation of the gift cards.
And in perhaps its most impactful endeavor yet, UHSM also provided a batch of new Microsoft Surface Pro laptop/tablet hybrid computers to teachers in Southern California in February, with the goal of helping ease the educators’ new and considerable burden of having to effectively conduct classes and reach students remotely.
“The tablets allow teachers to better utilize curriculum features such as the drawing and writing features in our math program as well as model examples digitally,” says Kelly Botto, principal of St. Joseph Catholic School in Santa Ana, California. “Additionally, teachers have a robust device to host Zoom classes for those connecting from home. As we look to the future, these devices will aid the teachers in being more mobile in their classrooms when using technology.”
