GUADALAJARA, Mexico--()--Casa Don Ramón, a long-standing favorite brand for tequila and mezcal enthusiasts, is launching today its newest U.S. product line, the Tequila Don Ramón Platinium Collection. This collection takes a modern approach to a time honored practice of distillation, which removes the liquid’s color and piquancy. The result is an exquisitely smooth taste, and long finish meant for easy sipping. Casa Don Ramón is now one of only two dozen or so brands available in the U.S. offering cristalino tequila, and the first to offer a full Cristalino collection.

Cristalino, essentially a filtered aged tequila, is a newer category in the tequila market repertoire that has been gaining popularity in the U.S. It is also the fastest growing tequila category in Mexico, responsible for making tequila the largest spirit category in Mexico, and for shifting its consumption to more than 50% female, according to Forbes. Through the proprietary filtration, the woodier notes from the barrel and color of a tequila are removed, leaving an elixir with the complexity of an añejo and the crispness of a plata.

Creating the perfect cristalino is an art and a science, ensuring the tequila makers know the precise amount of time to keep the liquid within the filtration process to remove the color, but maintaining a naturally aromatic, aged tequila. The purpose of filtration is to find the hidden notes the barrel aging provides while reducing the woody notes and color. Mouthfeel for the Tequila Don Ramón Platinium Collection should feel lighter and silky, as well as smooth on the nose.

The Tequila Don Ramón Platinium Collection comes in three expressions each made from 100% Blue agave from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico:

Platinium Plata - double-distilled for a smooth and brilliant taste and pure profile.
Agave: 100% Blue agave
Distillation: Double-distilled in steel
Color: Clear
Aroma: Fresh, citrus and agave
Notes: Cooked agave and fruit

Platinium Cristalino Reposado - double-distilled and rested in American and French oak, resulting in a smooth, delicate taste and robust profile.
Agave: 100% Blue agave
Aged: Rested in American and French Oak barrels for four months
Color: Cristalino Clear
Aroma: Wood, spices, chocolate, cinnamon and soft vanilla
Notes: Citrus, nuts and vanilla

Platinium Cristalino Añejo - double-distilled and aged in American oak barrels for 12 months. Further time spent with a proprietary finishing method results in a smooth, richer taste and robust profile.
Agave: 100% Blue agave
Aged: 12 months in a blend of American and French Oak barrels
Color: Cristalino Clear
Aroma: Wood and spices
Notes: Nuts, vanilla, cacao and cinnamon

“As the tequila industry gathers popularity among more female and younger consumers, preferences for the spirit have been shifting,” said Jesus Reza, Maestro Tequilero at Casa Don Ramón. “This audience is drawn to clear spirits that are aesthetically pleasing, which are still bold in flavor like the traditional amber expressions. This cristalino collection from Casa Don Ramón brings forth subtle vanilla and fruit notes, while subduing overly woody notes, which gives the balanced, crisp flavor that these newer-to-tequila audiences really enjoy and find more approachable.”

All three expressions are delightfully unique, sipped neat or poured over a single large ice cube to be slowly sipped, or mixed and shaken into your favorite tequila-based cocktail. This is rare to have a tequila so versatile that, while best to savor slowly to taste the vanilla and fruity notes, can also be used in a cocktail.
