Quaker Lobby Hosts New Yemen Film Screening and Panel

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) will host a special screening and panel discussion of the new film, HUNGER WARD. It will take place on Thursday, February 4, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. EST, with free tickets available at www.fcnl.org/yemenfilm.

FCNL teamed up with Academy Award®-nominated director Skye Fitzgerald and Spin Film for this special screening. HUNGER WARD provides an unflinching look at the famine in Yemen. It was filmed entirely in Yemen between January-February 2020.

HUNGER WARD follows health care workers Dr. Aida Asladeeq and nurse Mekkia Mahdi as they work to save the lives of children in the war-ravaged country. Filmed from inside two of the most active therapeutic feeding centers in Yemen, it documents their work against the backdrop of a U.S.-backed forgotten war.

Yemen is experiencing the world’s worst humanitarian crisis today. Indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets and blockading of Yemeni ports continue to cause widespread famine. This is all done with tacit U.S. military support, including weapons and logistics supplied to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Following the film, FCNL General Secretary Diane Randall will moderate a panel discussion centered on the U.S. role in the crisis and what the Biden administration must do to end the Yemen war.

The panelists are: Skye Fitzgerald, Oscar® nominee and director of HUNGER WARD; Dr. Aisha Jumaan, president of the Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation; and Hassan El-Tayyab, FCNL legislative manager for Middle East policy.

Members of the press are encouraged to register and attend here.
