Landmark Recovery Creates COVID-19 Protection Units in Facilities

Landmark recognizes the need for additional protective measures and implements changes

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Landmark Recovery announces the implementation of COVID-19 Protection Units at all Landmark facilities in Oklahoma, Kentucky and Indiana. Addiction thrives in times of isolation and as the country has spent time quarantining and social distancing, addiction overdose numbers are increasing. According to a CDC study, 13.3% of adults reported new or increased substance use as a way to manage stress due to the coronavirus.

In order to ensure that patients can continue to receive the services they need in a safe environment, Landmark will immediately begin testing all patients on arrival for COVID-19 and quarantining new arrivals in specialized wings of its facilities that are designed for enhanced COVID-19 precautions. Patients will remain in these units until their negative test results are confirmed by the laboratory.

“One of our core values is to be Uncompromising in the Pursuit of Excellence. As a company that is revolutionizing what it means to be an evidence-based provider of addiction services, we are once again setting the bar in terms of keeping our patients safe during a global pandemic,” said Matt Boyle, Chief Operations Officer at Landmark Recovery.

Landmark’s COVID-19 Protection Units are designed to prevent the asymptomatic spread of COVID-19 by patients in its facilities. The units are physically isolated from other parts of the building and have dedicated staff to ensure no cross contamination with other units. Specialized procedures have been implemented to ensure staff-free and contact-free delivery of food, and to allow for adequate personal hygiene measures. Staff on the COVID-19 Protection Units will wear Hospital Grade Personal Protective Equipment, allowing them to care for and comfort patients while preventing exposure and preserving safety. Landmark will continue to provide world-class group therapy and individualized services through video calls thanks to technological upgrades Landmark made on the COVID-19 Protection Units. Once Landmark can confirm a negative COVID-19 test result, patients will be introduced to the main unit and will continue treatment as usual. Due to the isolated nature of the unit, if a patient were discovered to have COVID-19, the patient could safely be discharged without impacting other patients at the facility, and without risking community-based spread.

“One of our mottos is ‘Reject the “Or”; Find the “And,”’” said Boyle. “The Opiate Epidemic does not go on vacation just because there’s another healthcare crisis in our midst. Choosing between offering life-saving addiction treatment and preventing the spread of COVID-19 is an unacceptable choice to us. Our COVID Protection Units will allow us to accomplish both goals safely and effectively.”
