ABLIC Launches the S-19246 Series of 10V Operation and 2000mA High Output Current LDO Regulators for Automotive Use

- A power supply IC for communication modules supporting automotive connectivity -

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ABLIC Inc. (President: Nobumasa Ishiai, head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter “ABLIC”) today launched the S-19246 Series of 2000mA high output current LDO regulators.

An LDO regulator is an IC that ensures output voltage stability.
The new S-19246 Series of automotive LDO regulators features a 10V (12V rating) input, 1.0 - 6.0V output, 105℃ operation, soft-start function (*1), and 2000mA output current.

Moreover, it meets AEC(*)-Q100 (*Automotive Electronics Council) standards for automotive ICs and is also PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)-capable.

So far communication modules that require high output current have used DC-DC converters (switching regulators). However, while a DC-DC converter used as a power supply IC in a communication module will handle high output current, noise is a cause for concern, and the large mounting area is a disadvantage.
The S-19246 Series launched today is a power supply IC capable of handling the high output current that was once the prerogative of DC-DC converters. Furthermore, the low-noise characteristics and smaller number of components of an LDO regulator make it the ideal solution.
To enable handling of high output current and achieve high allowable power dissipation, the regulator is housed in a high-heat dissipating TO-252-5S package.

*1 Soft-start function:
The soft-start function gradually raises output voltage at startup and when the ON/OFF pin is turned on, to suppress excessive inrush current or output voltage overshoot that might otherwise occur. The function suppresses abrupt changes in output voltage to help improve equipment safety. It also eliminates the need for external components, reducing the total number of components.

[Major Features]

  1. Housed in high-heat dissipating TO-252-5S package, it yields a high output current of 2000mA
  2. 10V input/12V rating and high operation voltage extend range of application
  3. Soft-start function enables safe start-up
  4. Automotive quality
The series has passed the triple-temperature test (low, normal and high temperature), and meets AEC-Q100 standards—the reliability and quality test defined by the AEC. It is also PPAP-capable.

[Applications]
Constant-voltage power supplies for communication modules
Automotive use (body, head lamps, ITS, accessories, car navigation systems, car audio equipment, etc.)
