PetSure Turns to Hewlett Packard Enterprise to Deliver Remote Care to Half a Million ‘Fur Babies’ in Australia Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Industry experts report a surge in pet ownership and adoption in Australia amid COVID-19 lockdown
  • PetSure provides pet insurance products for nearly half a million Australians with pets
  • HPE Nimble Storage dHCI helped to shift entire workforce and pet services online

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced PetSure, the leading provider of pet insurance products in Australia, has selected HPE Nimble Storage dHCI to deliver remote veterinary care and enable future growth.

Since the start of 2020, there has been a surge in pet ownership and adoption in Australia amid COVID-19 lockdown conditions, which has resulted in the need for quick and thorough advice on a pet’s health, needs and insurance. PetSure needed to shift employees to a virtual office environment and support remote veterinary care with services to help curb the spread of COVID-19 without compromising on pet care.

HPE Nimble Storage dHCI, a disaggregated HCI platform, enabled PetSure to deploy a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution that is capable of managing unpredictable workload volumes and complex infrastructure needs to deliver fast and reliable remote access. HPE Nimble Storage dHCI also aided in controlling IT costs to support business continuity strategies and avoid financial strain.

HPE Nimble Storage dHCI was introduced in June 2019 and is now available to customers as a service, through HPE GreenLake.

“With HPE Nimble Storage dHCI, we can now provide a superior VDI solution to support changes to our business model and our 400+ employees working remotely due to COVID-19,” said Rob Collins, Head of Infrastructure and Service Management at PetSure. “In the past, we were using AWS for our VDI workloads, but the costs were too high for us. With HPE Nimble Storage dHCI, we were able to reduce our operating costs by 50 per cent, improve our performance 2X for our VDI workloads, achieve 50 per cent faster application provisioning and improve efficiency by 70 per cent.”

Pet insurance has grown by double-digits in Australia in the past five years, according to PetSure. The company predicts this trajectory will continue into the next decade as pets make the shift from backyard into the home to become valuable members of the family. The ‘humanisation’ of pets has also led to an increase in conditions such as obesity and diabetes. To be able to keep pace with this trend, PetSure sought the expertise of HPE and partner AC3 to future-proof its enterprise IT infrastructure and ensure bandwidth capability, while also shifting to remote work.

“The COVID-19 global pandemic is an unprecedented situation that is affecting all businesses, our communities, and our way of life,” said Stephen Bovis, Vice President and Managing Director for HPE South Pacific. “HPE is here to help our customers bring together the right expertise and technology solutions to meet their most immediate challenges in this time. HPE Nimble Storage dHCI provides the IT performance and payment flexibility needed for Australian businesses to rapidly activate mobile productivity and desktop virtualisation to overcome the business risks posed by COVID-19.”
